Radon measurement
Radon is a radioactive element that is one of the many steps uranium takes as it breaks down to lead over millions of years.  It is odorless, invisible, tasteless, and chemically inert.  But it is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the world today.
Radon concentration is measured in picocuries per liter (pCi/L.)  Colorado is a known "hot spot" for radon gas in homes and the state of Colorado estimates that as many as 4 out of 10 homes in the state have high levels of radon.  Any concentration above 4.0 pCi/L is considered high and mitigation is recommended.  Concentrations vary greatly from place to place depending on the underlying geology. We have tested a home with a concentration of 20.0 pCi/L and the home across the street was only 2.0 pCi/L!
A home that is above 4.0 pCi/L is recommend to be mitigated. The cost of mitigation in Colorado is usually around $1000.00 depending upon the specific site and quality of mitigation.  We recommend mitigation be completed only by certified mitigators!
Anyone can accurately test their own homes with simple kits found in most hardware stores.  These kits usually cost around $50.00 including lab testing.  For real estate transactions, the use of third party certified professionals using the latest technology is recommended due to the time constraints and authenticity of the measurement.
Our pricing is usually $100.00 to $135.00 additional to the cost of inspection, depending on location and the ability to drop off or pick up the measurement device at the time of inspection.  The test takes at least 48 hours to complete and results are sent the same day of completion!  Call for a firm quote.
